Nicky's Rag Tales

I hear lots of doom and gloom when I turn on the radio and the TV. I’m a news junkie. I start at 6.30 in the morning and that’s after sleeping whilst listening to the radio all night. News is by nature never of the good variety. It’s like those voices in my head. That internal voice that never says what a wonderful person I am and how I am making the right decisions and the news is likewise always of the negative variety.

The reality of course is completely different, that is not to dismiss completely all the bad news it is just to bring balance into the debate. Some people are optimists by nature others are pessimists. I vary from day to day. The trick is to stay in the moment and completely focused. One thing I do know is that I am busy enough to believe that this country does have a future. Busy enough to know that there are enough people in work to keep the economic wheels turning.

So now to my working week and my reality. This week I have been selling Yummie Tummie with orders flowing in daily while preparing for a visit from Yummie Tummie Designer Stylist Heather Thomson from the States on 26th October. (I can’t wait to find out all the gossip from her about Beyonce and J.Lo both of whom are friends of hers). Falke hosiery is selling really well and new accounts are coming in from all corners of Ireland daily. Muubaa leather is selling out everywhere I sold it and a new collection is due in any day and Heidi Higgins Spring Summer collection is due in on Friday and we start selling next week for ten days. I know Heidi’s new collection is full of fabulous Special Occasion wear in the most beautiful colours and fabrics and I’m really looking forward to that. Phew I’m exhausted just reading all of that!!.

Have a fashionable week ahead…..

Camille Boutique gets Write Up From Weddings Online

There’s a certain satisfaction knowing you are shopping where the celebrities shop, there is even more satisfaction knowing you are shopping in a place where all your deepest Mad Men style fantasies can come true! Oh blessed day that the B Magazine gals stumbled upon Camille’s Boutique in Malahide. We really did go with the intention of research (you know...because we feel it’s our duty to all you lovely Wollies...), but the dresses were too amazing, so we simply had to buy one or two...or four...

Camille opened her boutique last year and has since made quite the stylish splash on the Irish fashion scene, kitting out clients such as Kathryn Thomas, Amanda Brunker and Jenny Masterson (to name but a few). She is one of the exclusive stockists for the vintage inspired brand Stop Staring! which was voted the best line for plus size women, by Oprah's O Magazine! Celebs such as Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian regularly sport Stop Staring! dresses for their exquisite slimming power. No matter what your shape or size, these dresses will make you feel and look fantastic (and we are not just saying that because we bought 6 of them).

Camille has just launched the British line, Mina and also does custom gown design and can create fab wedding dresses. So if you haven’t found the perfect gown yet, drop by and speak to her about creating your very own design!

Whether you are a guest or looking for the perfect dress for the day before or after your wedding, Camille’s Boutique is a must-visit!

The PR Boutique

This week The PR Boutique confirmed an exciting new client in the form of REN Skincare. As a young company specialising in fashion and beauty PR, it is an excellent international brand for our company to acquire and we are really excited about getting involved with their Irish business plans. I had an interesting talk with Aidan Nolan from Blue Sky Products, the distributors of REN in Ireland, and he informed me that a number of boutiques had began to express an interest in adding a beauty brand to their current fashion offering. After being fully educated on the entire REN range, I now think it is an excellent fit and there are some particularly savvy retailers out there who have spotted areas in the brand that can be marketed alongside their own in-store fashion offerings. The latest addition to the range is the most beautiful, and very reasonably priced, REN gift sets. Perfect for Christmas or any gifting occasion really. Not only are the products inside the boxes excellent, but each gift set box is a stylish little work of art and would make a welcome addition to any bedroom or bathroom - ideal for storing jewellery, make-up brushes and lots more in a chic and attractive way. Personally I love going into a shop that has thought to offer their customers that little something extra and with beauty products in this format they compliment the merchandising and seasonal themes of a boutique perfectly!

Nickys Ragtales

The weather is a hot topic of conversation in Ireland. With every greet and meet comes a comment on the state of the prevailing climate of the day or even the hour. For most of us it’s just a passing interest but for farmers and anyone in the retail Fashion business it really it an important factor. Today was typical bad fashion, good personal weather! Warm and dry. New stock has arrived in and no matter how many times we are told that this is going to be a great outerwear season it must be hard to sell a coat on a warm day.

There are however designers and collections that manage to buck the trend. The new Heidi Higgins collection was delivered to the eight Irish retailers last week and I have already had phone calls for repeats. The photo shoot and article in the Independent Sunday Life magazine last week certainly helps move things along. I have taken a personal decision regarding the taking on of new agencies and its simple. The product must be something I really like and it has to have good marketing behind it. If companies are not prepared to invest in this market then I won’t either.

London fashion week is nearly over and I was supposed to be there. The hard copy invites are sitting on my mantelpiece! I was struck down with an infetion that has had me grounded and so I have been watching and blogging quite successfully from my couch. Live streaming has become de rigueur and provides a really good view of the shows. I loved the Burberry show, Ashish was a total mess and Jaeger London was sublime. You can check out all the shows yourself by just Googling ‘LFW live stream’ if you want to catwalk couch surf yourself.

Have a fashionable week ahead…..
