The label quickly attracted a large and loyal following in the North West and in London, achieving impressive sales density, and throughout its development has retained much of that early allegiance whilst gradually broadening its appeal. Customers are women with personal style who appreciate good design and individuality, and who sometimes enjoy being a little cheeky or girly.

Vicky Martin is experiencing continued success in the UK by way of own brand Boutiques and concession agreements in Selfridges.

The brand is already a big hit with a whole host of UK celebrities such as: Zoe Soloman, Vicky Binns, Sacha Parkinson, Kym Marsh, Michelle Heaton, Brooke Vincent and a number of highly influential television and music industry personalities.

The collection is comprised of Evening and Daywear for all age groups in addition to mini dress and skirt lines to capture younger audiences.

Price points are very good for a UK made product ranging from €50- €400.

New to Occasions Boutique, Galway this Autumn is a new collection of elegant trouser suits from Ursula.The collection comprises of twist crepe and vintage chiffon 3pce trouser suits in a range of opulent brocade, berry red, royal blue and rich teal shades. This range also features a ‘Luxfit’ lining that acts as an internal bodyshaper for added support. The Ursula trouser suit collection also caters for larger sizes stocking sizes 12 – 24.

This week hasn’t quite worked out as planned. So, what’s new in that? I hear you say.

Plans that had been made had to be changed and what was to have been a week of showroom selling has become one of introducing a completely new line to our collections and organising a PR event for later in the month. The Showroom selling has been put forward to next week due to unforeseen circumstances (as they say on TV)

The Electronic Sheep collection is arriving in tomorrow and I’m looking around wondering where I’m going to house it and how best to display it. A quirky, fun collection of really great quality lambs wool scarves and hats that are sure to brighten up the darkest of winter days. This is a company that is Irish but who launched in the UK and is already a big hit in London.

I heard on the news this morning some one predicting that we are going to have 30 days of snow this Winter (I have my rucksack filled and ready in my boot) so perhaps these scarves will sell like hot cakes!! Small and frequent orders in addition to our seasonal lines are now what keeps our business healthy. Accessories are the major growth area for the savvy smart boutiques and with Falke Hosiery, Yummie Tummie shape wear and now Electronic Sheep scarves and hats in our armoury I am a happy agent. These are all relatively low cost items that enhance and add value to clothing. That pair of quality opaques or lace tights can change a dress from day to evening. The Yummie Tummie camisole can smooth and enhance that top and avoid those bumps showing. The scarf can brighten a dark outfit and help those pale faces brighten while keeping a person warm and cosy.

I’m also trying to launch a fabulous music CD which has now almost been completed to raise funds for the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Children’s Department and I will be telling you more about that project in the next couple of weeks. My good friend Kenn Joyce has been a major help on this one. I may be asking for your help shortly because I will need help to sell the CD’s which I’m hoping some of my media friends will help me push. More about that later, in the meantime have a fashionable week ahead……

CHIC UNIQUE – FIRST YEAR IN BUSINESS.

A look back on her first year in bussiness from Debbie

As I arrive in my final quarter of my first year in business I sit back in reflection of the achievements I have made in a business that I had never been in before and can smile. Yes I did have plenty of people tell me I was mad enter the rag trade and in a recession but I put those to one side and worked on my drive and also listened to the friends and family who voices of support and well wishes were there every day, without whom I don’t think I would have had the courage of my convictions.

Here I am entering into my second Autumn/Winter and have decided to take up with two new labels to the boutique that are Irish, I love to support Irish but like to source what suits the style of the boutique too so both Kate & Ava and Sinead Doyle Design work perfectly with the store. I have also brought on another commercial brand Twenty8Twelve by S. Miller, Sienna Miller together with her sister Savannah design this brand and it is fantastic, from the superb denims to soft leathers to edgy but classy dresses. A brand that is admired by Blake Lively (Serena – Gossip Girl) amongst others.

Within the store we also have the well know InWear brand that has been in circulation since it’s inception in 1969 InWear’s commitment to designing pieces that are like no others is constant – yet the shapes, fabrics, and looks of the collections continually evolve to meet the needs of their customer: the InWear woman. The unique brand of Nueva which offers items from both day to occasion and the wonderful couture brand of Anoushka G. We also cater for Mother of the Bride with the wonders of Irish and John Bentley and some of the other collections.

I continue to travel to source and discover new and exciting new brands all the time and ensure that the ones we have suit our customers. Within the boutique as was always our vision we aim to offer a full service to the ladies entering our door and we offer a wide range of accessories from Bags to Umbrellas, Lingerie to Belts, Headpieces to Hosiery. We also hear from customers on a regular basis that oh I have a dress in my wardrobe that I have only worn once and I will never wear it again, our answer to that is bring it into us and we can offer advice on how to accessorise it so that you see it in a different light and wear it more than you currently do. Clothes are to be worn not admired unless by others while they are been worn by you so why not get the most of your wardrobe and rethink how you use it. We will offer a home visit if you prefer on assistance of how best to clear your wardrobe in order to get a core wardrobe that you can build on, yes sometimes you have to be harsh with yourself and let go of the Debs dress that is never going to fit you again ... I know I will never see my size 8 one again.. time to let go however precious.

I love what I do every day and I meet interesting people all the time, I am so glad I followed my dream and made it a reality even on the hard days it is great to know when you open your door you are working for yourself. Yes it is hard work but then what is worth doing is worth putting your energy into and I am so grateful for the support of my family and friends because without them it would be so much harder. Here’s to year two and may it be just as good as year one because I love what I do.
