Nickys Ragtales

Constance Harris Fashion Editor of the Independent Newspaper published a photo shoot and article on Heidi Higgins Autumnn Winter collection in the Sunday Independent Life magazine. The collection which is now available in Heidi’s own Boutique/Studio in Portlaoise and at selected retailers around the country. I have been working with Heidi since last year and was at the photo shoot last June . I had my camera with me plus lots of good food which was happily eaten from the bonnet of the car during a very long day in which everyone who was there worked particularly hard. Here are some of my photographs from that day that could not be seen until now. I hope you agree that the clothes look fabulous. I am expecting Heidi to have a very good season and am trying to decide exactly which pieces of the collection I should buy for myself. I will have to decide very soon as I don’t expect them to be in the shops for long

Diet Coke Designers at Belfast FASHION WEEK 2010

www.fashionweekbelfast.com

This season, the bi-annual, multi-award winning fashion event which is Belfast FASHION WEEK 2010 has teamed up with Diet Coke to give fashion design students, young designers and anyone with a flair for fashion the chance to design a commercial, wearable and fashion forward garment which will end up on the catwalk.

Entrants are required to design a womenswear look for the Autumn/Winter season that encapsulates the spirit of the Diet Coke ‘Love it Light’ attitude. This can be interpreted within fashionable boundaries and changed to, for example, ‘Love it denim’, ‘Love it leather’ or ‘Love it long and glamorous’.
The winning design will be brought to life by designer to the stars Una Rodden, shown on the catwalk at the finale show at Belfast FASHION WEEK 2010 in October, photographed by leading fashion photographer Khara Pringle and featured in a fashion magazine.

The lucky designer will also walk away with a mini scholarship to a fashion course at London College of Fashion, including flights and hotel accommodation to further nurture their passion for fashion.

If you are not a budding designer not to worry Diet Coke will be pulling up at Castlecourt on 16th October for Belfast FASHION WEEK 2010 in a fab 1960’s airstream Silver Palace as part of Diet Coke’s Love it Light Roadshow! Enjoy free preening and pampering at the Diet Coke Boutique with their nail and makeup experts from Rimmel London and Sally Hansen; hands on style advice from TV3’s Laura Cunningham and chill out at the Diet Coke Cafe while sipping on an ice cold Diet Coke!

For all those wishing to enter the design competition you will need to supply final designs and illustrations with front and back views on A3 boards, completed entry forms and supporting material to be submitted by 4pm on Friday 17 September.

Tres Chic Opens in Sandymount

Opening one boutique in the depths of the recession is no mean feat, but two boutiques within six months of each other is what you call confident! That’s what former stylist Emma McCrory and her husband Tom did, when they bought Tres Chic in Malahide in February of last year. The entrepreneurial couple both with backgrounds in the fashion industry, her as a stylist and working in the wholesale business, and himself in both ladies & gents fashion retail, have just opened their second Tres Chic boutique in the Dublin 4 village of Sandymount.

The original Tres Chic in Malahide had been dressing the good and the great for over 17 years and the couple made subtle changes and added some new great labels such as Tutti & Co, Gustav, and Anetta Gortz (coming SS '11).Their two stores exude style with warm and inviting interiors and great labels, giving the customer a comfortable and enjoyable shopping experience, and with Emma’s free styling advice, if you want it!

Tres Chic Sandymount stocks some great Irish (Roisin Linnane - SS 2011) and foreign labels such as the popular Mais il est où le soleil, Hoss, InWear, Part Two, Bobi, Sita Murt, Numph, Jackpot and Sarah Pacini to give you a flavour! Stunning jewellery comes from Tutti & Co and Hult Quist and footwear and bags from French label Unisa.

Tres Chic is at Number 94, Sandymount Road, Sandymount Village, Dublin 4.

The PR Boutique Interviews Denise from Teamworx

Denise Brady, co-owner of retail recruitment company Teamworx gives us her view on the industry she loves and works tirelessly to assist. For further information see www.teamworx.ie

1)What does an average day at Teamworx involve?

Every day at Teamworx is varied and challenging and having your own business means you can be on a plane to London to meet with clients such as Gucci, Arcadia Group, Louis Vuitton etc or be sitting at your desk screening CVs or talking to candidates about making the next move in their career. At Teamworx we provide a service to both our clients and candidates alike to ensure we place the right candidate in their perfect job. We are only as strong as the last placement we have made and our reputation is extremely important to us. Over 75% of our business comes from word of mouth and referrals.

We recruit for a lot of prolific brands and have become synonomous with recruiting for fashion retailers in Ireland such as H&M, Zara etc as well as luxury and boutique style retailers. The retail market has changed dramatically over the past year and job hunting has become a lot more difficult – it is definitely now an employers market. Candidates are no longer using the press as their recruitment tool of choice but have turned to social media, company websites and recruitment agencies.

2) Why hire a recruitment agency, why not just advertise?

Due to the economic downturn, there is now a huge amount of candidates in the market place. A lot of our clients have found when they advertise avacancy on a job site, they are getting a huge volume of applicants but not the quality they are looking for. This is where Teamworx comes in! Our job is to save our client time. We work from the initial screening process through to end result and rather than dealing in volume we present our clients with three or four of the most suitable candidates with relevant job experience. This not only saves a huge amount of wasted time trawling through CVs, it is also a very cost effective way to recruit. If we don’t get you the perfect candidate, we are not paid a penny!

3) What one trait, above any other, do you find companies ask you to find in a recruit?

When a retailer is recruiting for a member of their team at junior or senior management level, they always look for candidates who are extremely hard working, hands on, flexible and don’t want to work nine to five – that’s what retail is about!

The look is timeless and exudes both femininity and substance. These gorgeous garments enrobe the female figure like a dream, and such poise and simple style are bound by no fashion rules.
