Galway Fashion Revolution!!

Dublin, London, and Paris Fashion Come to Galway
On the 22nd July, 2009, high fashion will be in Galway at the Fashion For Freedom: A Life Doesn’t Have A Price Tag charity fashion show. Designers from across Ireland and London are all joining forces with Discovery Church, a local Galway church to combat an international plague: human trafficking.
It is reported that human trafficking is now the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world today. An estimated 27 million people are victims of human trafficking at this very moment. Thirteen million of these are under the age of eighteen. Between 23 and 25 billion Euro was made off of the selling of human beings last year alone. Dr. Phil McGraw of the popular American television program Dr. Phil has stated that the human trafficking enterprise makes “more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined”. Thousands of innocent boys, girls, women and men are trafficked into the sex trade and forced prostitution daily. Helpless and alone, victims of human trafficking have no escape. This is the face of modern day slavery.
One hundred percent of the profits from the event will go to Free For Life, an international charity that actively rescues victims of human trafficking and builds safe houses for rescued victims in countries of Eastern Europe, Nepal, India and Africa.
The event appears to be the biggest fashion event to hit the West! The Fashion For Freedom show is the first show of this caliber to completely open to the public. Designers including Zoe Boomer, Maria Grachvogel, Eilis Boyle, Helen James, Unicorn/ Sophie Rieu, Eileen Shields Shoes, Maria Cárdenas, Claire Garvey, Love Your Shoes, Jennifer Rothwell, Rachel Mackay, MoMuse Jewellery, Project Catwalk Contestant Fionualla Bourke, Melissa Curry Jewellery, Sinéad Doyle, Emily Jean and Vintage by Gladys will all be showcasing full collections on the catwalk. Hosts for the event will be Dancer/ Model/ Actor Criscilla Crossland and American Singer/ Songwriter/ Reality TV Competitor Coffey Anderson. Criscilla Crossland, who is one of the most sought after dancers in Hollywood today and has toured and performed with the likes of Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, P. Diddy and more, will be performing with her dancers and Coffey Anderson will be treating the audience to a private show. The night will not only include great fashion, but a rocking show as well.
At the event, there will be thousands of euros in raffle prizes, including pieces by world famous hat milliner Philip Treacy, Charles Anastase and Hope & Benson. There is even an internship with London Designer, Maria Grachvogel for auction. The best part is, every person attending the event is entered in the drawing for the Philip Treacy hat!
“Fashion For Freedom: A Life Doesn’t Have A Price Tag is a community event to make a difference internationally” says James Earle, one of the event coordinators. “It is not about our church, or the specific designers, it is about a group of people who see a problem of epidemic proportions and say enough is enough, we have to make a difference”. The event truly does resemble a community event. The committee of the event is dedicated to making this an event not only for the West of Ireland but by the West of Ireland. “Obviously our designers are coming from around Ireland and England, but we have intentionally outsourced businesses from the West, (our community, our home)” stated Ruth Burke of the Fashion For Freedom Committee. Production for the event will be done by Mandy Maher of Catwalk Models, lighting by Blacklight, makeup by Elaine Flaherty and the Blush Team and hair by Bellissimo, [all businesses based in the Galway area].
