Get the Look with Makeup artist Roisin Derrane.

Wedding day makeup should be flawless yet striking, but always aim to look like yourself at your most beautiful. Whether you are hiring a professional or doing your own, choosing the right products for your skin tone and individual features will get you looking great throughout the day with minimum touch ups.
Prep Skin: I love lightweight moisturisers as they hydrate and absorb quickly. Always apply your regular moisturiser as early as possible, then before applying your primer use a small amount of Serum to smooth, I like Smooth- 365(available in Boots) a silicon- rich formula that smoothes out skin tone and blurs fine lines. Primer should be applied just before your foundation. Smashbox Photo Finish primer fills in fine lines and pores to help skin appear visibly smoother; it also seals in moisturiser, so your foundation will stay on for longer. Foundation,. Skin tones vary and so should your choice of foundation, whether you like a lightweight or a full coverage. Their are lots of great choices to try. LIGHT COVERAGE: While other illuminating foundations have made our skin glow, Chanel’s Teint Lift deposits radiance without any patchiness, and doesn’t melt off by midday. MEDIUM COVERAGE: Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place makeup, This stays in place all day, and it does provide an opaque coverage. I recommend using this for a classic winter look, with well groomed brows, liquid liner and statement lips. Use this over a Primer and apply with a foundation brush, press or dab product into skin with brush along center of face and blend outwards to hairline. Oil Free: Make Up Forever HD invisible cover foundation feels as thin as a serum but gives you fantastic coverage, its high pigment covers any redness or blotches and spreads so you don’t need a brush to blend. This comes in an impressive 25 shades,. Set all foundation with translucent loose powder to hold, always use a brush to apply for a less caked finish. To set your perfect base, try Clarins Fix’ Make-up mist, sprits all over the face to set.
Bronzing and Blushing: most skin benefit from a dusting of bronzer for that healthy glow and can also be used to shade. Try Guerlains Terracotta, a peach toned bronze, also Bobbi Brown do a great range. I love their Shimmer Brick bronzers and blushers. Simply apply with a large, soft brush starting just under the cheekbone and blend up towards the temple. Blend along forehead and bridge of nose. A bronzer creates a great base for your blusher, if your pale and tend to go red easily go for a pale pink (Smashbox, Soft Lights in Prism) and peach or bronze work’s on darker skin (Gingersnaps Blush Rush, Smashbox)
Eye Makeup: Matt eye shadows in neutral colours are a must to create that Smokey daytime look. I love two basic shades from Bobbi Brown, Taupe is fab blended along the lid and following the shape of crease, and used as a soft line along bottom lashes. Mahogony is one of my favourite’s shades to get depth along crease line, use an eye blender brush (Mac 255) to soften colour, blending up towards eyebrow. Use same colour to fill in eyebrows with a small angular brush. The secret to achieving a really professional finish is by layering on eye shadows. Start with your mid colour, apply along lid and, then your darkest colour on crease line but flick it up and out at outer lash line. Blend all together with an eye blending brush. Use your mid colour to get that smudged look along bottom lashes. Finish your eye shading with a lighter colour to brighten it up. You can’t go wrong with a shimmer colour, I never tire of the Estee Lauders colour cubes, try Vanilla on inner corners and as a brow highlighter. Then dab some Gingersnap colour cube along upper lid. Check your eyebrows are groomed, make sure any strays are tweezed especially under eyebrow arch. Waterproof mascara is great to coat lashes and hold mascara on all day, but to achieve thickness and volume go with a regular mascara first. False lashes are excellent for that doe eyed look, and you can get lots of styles, try R.M.K in Dundrum shopping centre or One Lash Bar in Powerscourt shopping center for a fantastic range to suit all.
Lips: This Smokey Day look focuses on the eyes rather than the lips, so choose a sheer berry or nude pink-toned for a natural shimmer. Dab some concealer along lips to lighten and define, set with a dusting of translucent powder. Line lips with a nude coloured liner starting from outer corner in towards middle, do same on bottom line. if your using a sheer or creamy fomula, just apply directly, no need for lip rush. Sheer formulas will need to be reapplied more often but look great. Try Chanel Levres Scintillates in 167 for the perfect gloss; also I love Clarins new Sheer Tint in Frosted Peach, great applied directly from the tube for a soft finish.

Aura Boutique

Irish supermodel, Kiera Gormley, recently flew into Dublin to model the latest collection from Aura boutique, as they celebrated ten years in style. Owner and buyer, Laura Bradshaw, chose Kiera as the 'face' of Aura because she epitomized the shops eclectic style with her "unique and dramatic beauty". Kiera is the only supermodel to have originated from Belfast and she has shot campaigns for Burberry, Aveda, Jaeger, and Aquascutum.
Kiera has also appeared on the cover of Italian Vogue, as well as being regularly photographed for British Vogue and ID. She is undoubtedly one of the most successful Irish models ever. During the photo shoot, Kiera modeled some of the key looks from the stores exclusive labels such as: Patrizia Pepe, Y's Yohj Yamamoto, Cacharel, Vandenvos, Appartmento 50, and Jorando - creating a strong and edgy look for the upmarket store.
Since it first opened its doors back in 1998, the shop has become a haunt for women who like individual pieces and have their own distinctive look. Aura strives to bring a mix of up-and-coming designers as well as more established designers to the fashion-forward customer. The boutique provides such an eclectic mix of styles-from the up-and-coming to the already-arrived designer, all fashion savvy women will find something they absolutely adore.

Get that Winter Glow!!

Make up artist Roisin Derrane shows us how to get that Golden Complexion!

Autumn complexions can always use some help, colour and shine will add that warmth and glow we need. Why not get inspired with autumns own signature colour to oomph up your makeup palette. Gold works on all skin tones and adds sparkle to your eyes.

Skin: Add a splash of life to autumn skin by applying a light fake tan I love St. Tropez Everyday for a subtle glow. Use a yellow based foundation to get rid of blemishes and redness, try R.M.K IN Dundrum center for a fab range of colours and textures, apply with a foundation brush. Instead of a powder try using a light coloured bronzer along cheekbones, forehead and bridge of nose for a natural look, opt for one with a light shimmer. Use a bronzed Gold as a blusher, I love Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Gold, apply using a large brush along cheekbones and up along temples. I like to use two blushers to add some subtle colour, apply some pink over the gold on apples of the cheek.
Eyes: Gold on the eyelids make your eye colour pop out and is really easy to use. I love to use a gold liquid liner on top of a regular black liner all along top lashline. Then apply a shimmer shadow in Peach all along eyelid, top and bottom. Try Chanel for great gold and copper colours that come in easy to use eye shadow palette. I always apply shimmer colours with my finger or a sponge applicator; you get the best results this way as colours are not very strong. Try Ruby and Millie Eyecolour in Gold and No 17 eyecream use on inner corners of the eyes or lightly dab over eyeshadow to get some shimmer.
Lips: Gold and Red are definitely these seasons’ colours, but a shimmer or sheen textured in copper or berry looks great and really works for most shapes lips. Use a Berry shade lip liner to add definition to lips and blend lightly with finger. Dab a red colour using a lip brush or for a natural finish use a cotton bud. Then apply a Gold lip gloss to the center of your lips to finish.

Get Mary-Kate Olsens Smokey Look!

Get Mary-Kate Olsens Smokey Look, by Makeup Artist Roisin Derrane!

This weeks look is all about eyes, shimmery foundation and nude lips. Eyes are an area where you can be creative and have no real limitations. Here I used liquid liner, pencil and eyeshadow to create a smouldry look. I suggest altering your eye pencil for a day look to light brown or grey, but go for black for a smouldry look.
Step 1: Use a liquid foundation sparingly, dot foundation around centre of face and blend outwards using a foundation brush. To keep skin fresh swap your heavy powder for a bronzer in a natural shade like Terracotta by Guarlain, sweep this lightly along cheekbones, forehead, bridge of nose and chin.
Step 2: Brows; brush through and use a shadow to fill in rather than a pencil for a softer finish, try Laura Mercier Brow powder Duo, which has a double ended brush. Use small side to fill in arch area and thicker side for the rest.
Step 2: Apply black eyeliner to upper and lower inner eye area, smudge pencil gently into lashes. Using a sponge type applicator, blend pencil into a Smokey circle around eyelash area top and bottom. First, using the eyeshadow applicator, softly blend brown shadow over pencilled area just above lashes and blend outwards to create a flick. Next arc brown shadow into the crease of the eyelid using a small eyeshadow brush concentrating the colour on the crease and outer half of the eye to get an almond shape, then blend well with a large shadow brush in circular movements. Use a shimmery beige eyeshadow to highlight eyebrow arch and dab some on inner corners to open them up. Finish with lots of black mascara; try Smashbox for intense black and longer lashes.
Tip of the week: when creating Smokey eyes, do eyes before foundation, and if you use Lid primer over lid before eyeshadow, it will last a lot longer, try Benefit lid primer from Brown Thomas. Prep skin with a light, oil free moisturiser rather than a heavy one, don’t forget theirs enough moisturiser in liquid foundation to keep dry skin looking good.

She can be contacted on 0872805073, or on roisinderrane@hotmail.com

This week we caught up with Roisin to get some tips on getting that look!
Next week -ever wondered how to create smouldering eyes? Step by step instructions on creating that sexy look!

Get The Look.
Luminous skin, Toffee Lips and Smokey greys are perfect for all occasions, both day and night. Foundations are so advanced these days, you can wear more product but you will look like your wearing almost nothing. To get away with such strong eyes, skin needs to be fresh yet flawless, and powder cannot be seen!! To get perfect yet natural skin, check out sheer foundations and the new HD (high definition) foundations and powders. I love the Make up Forever range and Smashbox.
STEP 1: Begin with the Eyes, you can mop up any mistakes from shadow and apply foundation after. To get eyelids matt apply a beige eyeshadow first. Use a smudgy eyepencil to line across upper lashline, winging it out at the outer corner, and then apply a matt grey shadow to the entire socket area, starting from where the eyeliner ends and working back into the socket. Looking up into a mirror line the inner rim of your eyes with a Grey liner and blend it across bottom lashes. Blend this with a soft applicator like a small brush or Qtip. Dot a darker shadow along on outer corner of socket line (The crease area between lashline and brow) and blend with a shadow brush upwards and outwards. Layer on dark colours and blend lightly to build up to an intense look. Choose a silver shadow, that’s not too shimmery and dab on inner corners of the eyes, then add a white shadow to the brow bone. Finish with lots of black mascara.
STEP 2: The backdrop for this smouldry look is a light, reflective base that is sheer enough to keep skin looking start-of-the-evening fresh, but with good coverage. Look for Sheer finish foundations or the new range of High Definition (HD) bases. Translucent powders are also lighter. Start by dabbing foundation on centre of the face, this area generally needs most coverage. I find using fingers rather than a brush to blend Sheer foundation works better as its consistency is quite thin so easy to blend. Then, simply cover up under-eye circles (Benefit Bo-ing is the ideal choice for tired eyes) and brighten this area with Touché Éclat by Y.S.L extending it up to cheekbones and temples. Apply a light layer of powder (HD for best results) to set. Dip a large brush into Bronzer and tip off excess, then lightly dust along cheekbones up to temples, along jaw line and the rest across forehead. Best to apply a couple of layers rather than one heavy, obvious application. Work your blush into apples of your cheeks upwards; use a cream one for that fresh sheen. I love Estee Lauders Cream Stick Blushes.
STEP 3: Line lips with a natural tone, and fill in outer corners of the lips blending inwards to get longer lasting colour. If you love that Nude look, but you have lots of colour in your lips, you will need to neutralise them first. Apply a light shade like Velvet matt liner in Belle De Jour by Nars for a dewy finish. Lancôme’s Colour Fever Gloss in Nude Prainha is the perfect no make up look gloss you will get!
Tip: Perfect Brows are really fashionable this season. Invest in a good Eyebrow pencil, Laura Merciers Eyebrow Pencil is free from that alien looking orange tone. This gives natural looking definition is easy to use. Finish with a brow Gel to set.

Run 10km in 12 weeks with our Optifit Challenge

Irish Boutiques has teamed up with Optifit to bring you the 10km in 12 week challenge. Every friday we will post next weeks programme for your interest. Take the Challenge!!!

Get up off the couch and put your running shoes on! The only way you'll be running 10km in 12 weeks time is if you take that first step and get started on the training programme. This running plan kicks off at a pace that even first-time runners can keep up with, so there really is no excuse not to rise up and meet the 12 week challenge!

The bonus? You'll burn significant kilojoules, see an incredible boost in your energy, reduce the risk of disease and, best of all, feel great about yourself.
(Remember to consult your doctor before taking up exercise).

Monday
10 minute walk1 minute jog / 3 minute walk REPEAT 5 TIMES
So, you'll begin with a solid 10 minutes of brisk walking. Then, intersperse one minute of jogging with three minutes of walking, and repeat this combination five times.

Wednesday
10 minute walk1 minute jog / 3 minute walk REPEAT 6 TIMES
Again, walk solidly for 10 minutes, and then repeat the combination of one minute jogging with three minutes walking six times today.

Thursday
10 minute walk2 minute jog / 3 minute walk REPEAT 4 TIMES
Walk briskly for 10 minutes. Now up the jogging time to two minutes, with three minutes walking, and repeat this combo four times.

Tips to getting started
The first three weeks of the programme must be done on a field or soft surface to give your bones, ligaments and joints time to adjust to the impact forces of jogging.
The next nine weeks can be done on suitable routes that you measure out. However, initially concentrate more on the time for jogging and walking in sessions, than the distance covered.
In the first few sessions, you might be tempted to do more running than the programme suggests, but don't. Give your body time to adapt to the exercise and always warm-up. However, you can add in some extra walking in between sessions, or any non-weight bearing exercise like cycling or swimming

Neelu's Beauty and Remedial Clinic

Neelu’s is one of Ireland’s premier Beauty Salons located in Dun Laoghaire.

Neelu White has been working in the beauty industry for over 20yrs and specializes in non-invasive treatments which effectively & naturally enhance the beauty of the individual.
Neelu was the first therapist to introduce threading to Ireland, which is an ancient, traditional and natural facial hair removal technique and is used extensively throughout India and Asia. It is used on the entire face, i.e. eyebrows, upper lip, chin, sideburns and cheeks.
“Threading” has become the most fashionable form of brow shaping available in top New York & London Salons and thanks to Neelu it has now becoming increasingly popular in Ireland.
Neelu will be operating a Threading Bar at Style in the City in Merrion Square on the 11th, 12th, 13th & 14th of September so don’t forget to visit Neelu and experience the ancient technique of Threading for yourself.
“Eyebrows instantly frame the face. A perfect arch is like a mini face-lift and can take years off you. Not only does a well-defined brow make you look fresh and younger they make you look groomed and enhance your eyes”.
